Howard Otha Hogsed
1929 ~ 2013

Mr. Howard Otha Hogsed, age 83, of Toccoa, passed away April 1, 2013 at Landmark Hospital in Athens, after an extended illness.

Born April 24, 1929 in Banks County, GA, he was a son of the late Hamilton Rene and Celia Mae Myers Hogsed.

He was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  Mr. Hogsed was a U. S. Army Veteran serving on the front lines of the Korean War at Old Baldy, Porkchop Hill, and Heart Break Ridge, just to name a few.  He also served as a Corporal in the 7th Division.  He loved being outside, camping and enjoying nature.  His family and his church were most important to him.  He worked with Johnson Motors, Mt. Vernon Mills, and Fieldale Farms.
Mr. Hogsed was a big jokester and passed away on April Fools Day.

Family members include his wife, Grace King Hogsed; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kerri Hogsed; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Rodney Payne, Pamela and Criss Cobb, and Kim and Stuart Gaines; a niece and her husband, Angela and Reed Ballew; grandchildren, Jake and Amber Mize, Cale and Karli Cobb, April and Taz Buffington, John Mize, Cody and Carimy Cobb, Crayton and Vanessa Gaines, Karli Hogsed,  and Trevor Payne; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Pearl and Harlen Wilson and Myrtle Stroud; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Crumley, Betty Watkins, Thelma Hogsed, and Glenda Mae Hogsed; brothers, Jimmy, Walter, Don and Earl Hogsed.

Funeral services were held at four o’clock Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Tates Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty and the Rev. Sherry Lewis officiating.

Burial followed at Tates Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Georgia National Guard.

Deacons of Tates Creek Baptist Church served as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the building fund at Tates Creek Baptist Church.

Dewey F. Hollifield

Mr. Dewey F. Hollifield, age 71, of Rincon, GA formerly of Tiger, passed away April 5, 2013 in Rincon, GA.

Born in Tiger, GA, he was survived by, six children, Ricky Hollified, Kenneth Hollifield, Judy Boyles, Keith Harbert, Becky Peters, Cathy Jerrell and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be  held at 4 pm April 10, 2013 at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Martha Kowles Tubbs
1919 ~ 2013

Mrs. Martha Jenny Kowles Tubbs, age 93, of Toccoa, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Stephens County Hospital.

Born May 14, 1919 in Buffalo, NY, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Theresa H. Kowles.

Mrs. Tubbs was a member of the First Alliance Church of Toccoa, served as a Missionary for 24 years, a pastors wife for 42 years, and a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.

Family members include her husband, the Rev. George W. Tubbs;  son and daughter-in-law, David and Nancy Tubbs; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rev. Steve Van Valkenburg; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Paul and Edie Tubbs; a sister, Regina Moore; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at one-thirty Friday, April 5, 2013, at the First Alliance Church of Toccoa with Dr. Scott Borderud and Rev. George Tubbs officiating.            

Burial followed at Roselane Cemetery.

Robert Eugene Boltz
1935 ~ 2013

Mr. Robert Eugene Boltz, age 78, of Toccoa, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home.

Born March 31, 1935 in Hoopston, IL, he was a son of the late Donald and Mildred Boltz.

He was retired from British Petroleum and Amoco Oil  Company and had lived in Griffith, Indiana before moving to Toccoa.  Mr. Boltz was a U. S. Army Veteran. He served as a medical aidman in the 28th Headquarters and Logistics Company and received basic training in Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Family members include his wife, Joy Ellen Boltz; son and daughter-in-law, Trace and Beth Embry; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri Embry Ross, Tammy and Todd Boucher, and Tina and Ronny Burns; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Janet Boltz; six grandchildren; three great-granchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and neighbor, Bob and Ann Arbogast.

Funeral services were held at six-thirty Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with Mr. Trace Embry officiating.

Haley Amber Holmes
1989 ~ 2013

Haley Amber Holmes, age 23, of Toccoa, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Born April 25, 1989, she was a  daughter of Marty Holmes and Judy Mitchell Bromeling.

She was of the Baptist Faith and was a student at Gainesville State.  She was an avid fan of old movies, Michael Jackson, and NASA.

Family members include her mother, Judy Mitchell Bromeling; her father and step-mother, Marty and Diane Holmes; brothers, Joseph Holmes and Jeromy Holmes; sisters, Lindsey Williams and Tiffany Holmes; cousins, Ryan Scaraboro and Josh Harris; and her grandfather, Paul Holmes.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Zenobia Mills, Keet Mills, Coy and Julia Haley.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2 pm until 4 pm and 5 pm until  8 pm Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

Funeral services will be announced later.

Danny Wells
1950 ~ 2013

Mr. Danny Mack Wells, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at his home. 

Born June 26, 1950 in Franklin County, GA, the Red Hill Community, he was a son of the late Grady D. and Elizabeth Fulghum Wells and was raised by Boyd and Joyce Bennett and family.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was retired from Patterson Pump.

Family members include his wife, Linda Dianne Barnett Wells; daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Tim Ledford; sons, D. J. Wells and Joshua Wells; step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Tara Lord, Tonia Neisler, Michelle and Bryan Wade, and Robin and Ricky Streetman; brothers, Ray Wells and Wilton Wells; sister, Mary Ayers; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Wells; and two brothers, Bobby Wells and Lindy Wells.

Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Dr. J. Hill officiating.

Burial will follow at Middle River Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Chuck Hardy, Bryan Wade, Ricky Streetman, Tim Burrell, Cain Neisler, and Cody Cooke.

Darrell Smith will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5 pm - 8 pm Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Middle River Baptist Church Bus Fund.
